About Rogue River

This edition is about the city of Rogue River in western Jackson County, Oregon. It is not the Rogue River itself and not the wider Rogue Valley. The city lies on the north side of the river, with Interstate 5 on the south side. Grants Pass is about 9 miles west and Medford, the county seat, about 20 miles southeast (Wikipedia).

A plain reading

Rogue River is an older, smaller-income city than most of the valley. The median age of 50 is well above the 37 reported for Gold Hill, its neighbor. About half of owner-occupied homes are valued at $300,000 or more.

Treat every survey figure here as approximate. The city is small, so the American Community Survey rests on a small sample. The margin of error on households is about 12 percent, on median age about 10 years, and on the count of $300,000-plus homes it is larger still. The survey population (2,238) is lower than the 2020 Census count (2,407) and the 2025 certified estimate (2,484). Use the certified estimate for the city's size and the survey for rough shape only.

How we got these numbers

  • Population, households, tenure, income, home value, age and home-value brackets are from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates for 2020-2024, tables B01003, B11001, B25003, B19013, B25077, B01002 and B25075, read through Census Reporter for Rogue River city (Census place 4163450). Margins of error are the ones Census Reporter reports. The $300,000-plus count adds the seven top home-value brackets of B25075, so its margin is larger than any single bracket.
  • The 2020 population is from the 2020 Census, read from Census TIGERweb (place layer, field POP100).
  • The 2025 population is the certified estimate from Portland State University's Population Research Center for July 1, 2025, as reported by the Oregon Employment Department. The City of Rogue River's website shows the same number.
  • We did not pull Census business counts for this city.
